About the Adelaide & Mount Lofty Ranges NRM Board

The Adelaide and Mt Lofty Ranges NRM Board has the important role of managing, protecting and in some cases, restoring the region's precious natural resources.

The Board has brought together local Catchment Water Management, Soil Conservation and Animal & Plant Control Boards under the one umbrella with the aim achieving a more integrated and coordinated approach to the management of our soil, water, coastal and biodiversity assets.

To achieve its goals, the NRM Board works in consultation with the community and stakeholders to develop a plan of action for the region that will set priorities and targets. This regional plan will bring together the strengths and successes of the various plans that the previous Catchment and Soil Boards etc have been working to. (See Regional Plans)

However, the success of the Board depends on more than just a plan – it relies on people. Across the region there are numerous individuals and groups who dedicate their time in either a voluntary or paid capacity to help protect and manage our natural environment. It is through the continued efforts and commitment of these people and by engaging the broader community that we will succeed in making a difference.

The Board has in place a corporate governance framework to provide a clear and transparent system for the management and operation of the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resources Management Board. (View the Governance Framework)

The Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resources Management Board is made up of nine community members selected after expressions of interest were sought in the local press and eight members representing local, state and the Australian Government. The membership of our Board includes people with backgrounds in the management of natural resources, the conservation of ecosystems, the agricultural industry, public or business administration and regional and economic development. To assist the Board to understand and respond to the needs of local communities, the Region is divided up into smaller more workable areas that are guided by a local 'group'. There are four groups established in the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Region. (Read more about the Groups.)

Funding

Read more about the NRM Levy

Core funding for NRM Board activities is raised by the NRM Levy, which is paid by landholders and irrigators in the Board's area, with additional and significant monetary investments from the State and Commonwealth Governments. Through strong partnership arrangements with all levels of government and the community, the NRM Board attracts, co-ordinates and delivers a comprehensive suite of integrated initiatives aimed at improving the natural resources of the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges.

All monies raised via the NRM Levy are spent within the AMRL Region area.

The partnership between the Australian and State Governments and the NRM Board delivers joint investments (NAP and NHT) through the 'AMLR Regional Investment Strategy' while the National Landcare Program, the National Water Initiative , Envirofund and other programs also contribute significantly to the management of natural resources in the AMLR region.
