Sustainable Landscapes Tender

The Adelaide Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resource Management Board recognises the role that landholders play in protecting and improving the local environmental values of the Mount Lofty Ranges.

As such, we are conducting a trial of a new mechanism, called Sustainable Landscapes Tender, to deliver financial resources to land managers so that they may undertake activities that will help protect and restore the environment of our region. This will include actions such as;

  • protection of watercourses and remnant vegetation,
  • weed removal from remnant vegetation and riparian (watercourse) areas,
  • habitat restoration using local native plant species,
  • measures to reduce erosion, and
  • dam modification for environmental improvement.

This trial is being conducted in three small trial areas across the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges region and landholders in each of the trial areas have received a letter inviting them to take part.

  • Northern Trial Area (320kb  jpg )
  • Southern Trial Area (750 kb  jpg )

Sustainable Landscapes Tender will allow landholders to set their own price for the management services they are prepared to undertake to improve local environmental values. This price will form the basis of a bid, and will be compared against bids from all other participating landholders. Successful bids will be those that offer the best value for money, ensuring that public funds are spent on achieving the highest environmental gain per unit cost, while paying a fair price for the actions undertaken.

This approach is designed to enable landholders to:

  • determine the suite of activities they wish to put forward, and bid for costs associated with undertaking those activities based on what they consider a fair price,
  • secure financial resources for managing their property in a way which protects and restores the natural environment.

Expressions of Interest to be involved in this were required by December 5th, 2007.
