Coast, Estuarine and Marine Advisory Committee (CEMAC)

Committee Members Needed. 

Do you have a passion for all things coastal, estuarine and marine?

Call for Committee Member with local government expertise and general call for a register of interest.

The Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resources Management Board’s Coast, Marine and Estuary Advisory Committee (CEMAC) is seeking a member with knowledge and experience of local government processes and issues to fill a vacancy. Other expressions of interest for membership are also being sought to provide a standing list, should future vacancies arise.

The Committee was established in August 2006 to provide advice and support to the Adelaide and Mt Lofty Ranges Natural Resources Management Board in relation to its marine, coastal and estuarine natural resource management responsibilities.

The Committee meets monthly or as frequently as required given the requirements of the Board and reports to the AMLR NRM Board through the Chair.

Who is on the CEMAC?

The CEMAC is made up of six persons, who live in the AMLR NRM region and have relevant skills, knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • development of plans and investment programs for the management of natural resources with particular reference to marine, coastal and estuarine environments;Marine ecology, botany, fisheries and aquaculture
  • implementation and management of natural resource management strategies;
  • marine, coastal, or estuarine research;
  • marine, coastal, or estuarine management;
  • protection and conservation of marine, coastal, or estuarine environments;
  • social, economic and cultural use of marine, coastal, or estuarine environments;
  • marine, coastal, or estuarine education and facilitation of community awareness; and
  • local government processes and issues.

What does the CEMAC do?

The formal terms of reference for the committee are to:

  • Assist in the formulation, implementation and review of marine, coastal and estuarine components of regional NRM plans and investment strategies.
  • Ensure the adequacy of marine, coastal and estuarine resource conservation and investment strategies.
  • Identify marine, coastal and estuarine values (assets) and threats to the region and determine regional and local priorities for investment.
  • Identify, review and advise on marine, coastal and estuarine resource condition and management action targets, indicators and evaluation frameworks.
  • Provide advice to the Board for responding to relevant Australian, State and Local government plans, policies, strategies, legislation and programs.
  • Assist in the establishment of an integrated, effective and coordinated NRM management framework for marine, coastal, and estuarine environments, and a greater level of collaboration between government, NGO’s, industry and the community.
  • Provide advice on and assist in the establishment of partnerships to raise awareness and understanding of the marine, coastal and estuarine environments.
  • Provide recommendations to the Board for consideration by the NRM Council.
  • Develop a process for implementing marine and coastal initiatives that fall outside of defined sub-regional NRM group boundaries (e.g. Islands).
  • Ensure that communities and other parties with an interest in marine, coastal, and estuarine issues are engaged in regional planning processes and investment opportunities.
