What is Stormwater Pollution
Stormwater or Sewerage? There has been some confusion between what goes into the stormwater and sewerage systems. These systems are completely separate from one another.

About the Project
The Stormwater Pollution Prevention Projects aim to improve the water quality in creeks, rivers and the Gulf St Vincent by reducing the amount of pollution entering the stormwater system, where it flows untreated into our local waterways. Project Officers work in partnership with Councils and local businesses across the metropolitan Adelaide region to stop pollution at its source.
Raising business and community awareness about our responsibilities for preventing stormwater pollution is a high priority for the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges NRM Board. The Board has taken a leading role in environmental education within South Australia by supporting the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Projects (SPPPs) that are now operating across the Torrens, Patawalonga, Little Para, Smith Creek and Onkaparinga catchments.
Stormwater Pollution Prevention Officers are based in local councils to address stormwater pollution issues at the local level. The major focus of the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Projects is with small to medium industries and businesses not licensed by the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) and mobile business operators.
Project officers visit businesses, provide background information, identify areas for improvement to meet legislative requirements and encourage adoption of best management practices. The project also offers training and information materials including a video, business fact sheets, workshops, local displays and newsletters.
Local councils provide support to the project officers and they link to other federal, state and local government programs such as the EPA's Eco-efficiency Training Program and local Council initiatives.
